Notes
Ribeye steak works best but sirloin can substitute for budget option
Slice meat paper-thin for authentic texture – partial freezing helps
Traditional cheese options are Cheez Whiz, American, or provolone
Caramelize onions slowly for best sweet flavor development
Cook meat quickly over high heat to prevent toughness
Serve immediately for best texture and temperature
Can prepare components ahead but assemble just before serving
Use authentic hoagie rolls for proper bread-to-filling ratio
